Sports Desk, August 12: The long-awaited wedding has finally taken place. Portuguese football star Cristiano Ronaldo has married his longtime partner, Georgina Rodriguez, after nearly 10 years together, making him the son-in-law of Argentina.

Ronaldo and Georgina’s decade-long relationship finally reached its culmination last night. According to Portuguese media reports, the couple tied the knot in a private ceremony in the Cascais area near Lisbon. Their five children also attended the wedding.

On Tuesday night, Bangladesh time, Ronaldo posted a photo on his official Instagram account. The picture showed him placing his hand over Georgina’s, with both wearing wedding rings. In the caption, the Portuguese forward wrote “C ❤️ G.” Within just 30 minutes of being posted, the picture had received more than 3 million likes.

Last year, on August 11, Ronaldo and Georgina announced their engagement on social media. Georgina posted a picture of a large engagement ring and wrote in Spanish, “Yes, I do. In this life and in all my lives.” Exactly one year later, the couple got married.

A few days ago, rumors about Ronaldo and Georgina’s wedding had attracted crowds to Funchal Cathedral. However, those present later discovered that the bride and groom were actually another couple. The cathedral authorities subsequently clarified the matter in a statement on social media. Ronaldo also reacted to the post with a humorous emoji.

Over his 24-year career, Ronaldo has scored 976 goals in competitive football. At club level, the Portuguese forward has played for Sporting CP, Real Madrid, Manchester United and Juventus, and currently represents Al Nassr. For Portugal, he has scored 146 goals in 233 appearances—the highest international goal tally in men’s football. Recently, the Portuguese superstar played in his sixth World Cup.

Ronaldo’s wife, Georgina Rodriguez, was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. In 2016, she was working as a sales assistant at a Gucci showroom in Madrid, where Ronaldo was playing for Real Madrid at the time. That was when their relationship began.

After 10 years together, Ronaldo and Georgina have finally celebrated their love with marriage in Lisbon.
