Habibullah Fahad’s Short Story Collection A White Dove’s Elegy

Staff Reporter: Fiction writer Habibullah Fahad has published his new short story collection, A White Dove’s Elegy. The book contains seven short stories, translated from Bengali into English by Professor Idris Ali Mehdi. It has been published by Shohoj Prokash and features a cover designed by Dhruba Esh.

The book hit the market on Tuesday, August 25. It is available at various bookstores across Bangladesh, including the country’s leading online book platform, Rokomari. com.

The stories in the collection were written between 2022 and 2026. They are: A White Dove’s Elegy, The Rat, How I Became a Dog, The Day Moumita Returned Home, When Words Fail, Adoption, and The Corporate Circus.

The stories were originally published in Bengali at different times in leading national newspapers, magazines, and online literary journals.

Translator Idris Ali Mehdi said, “The time and life that Habibullah Fahad writes about are certainly familiar to us. Yet his narratives inspire us to look back even at familiar moments. In particular, the poetic beauty of his language has effortlessly created a distinctive voice in contemporary Bengali fiction.”

Among Habibullah Fahad’s other published works are the short story collections Khoyia Gokhrar Phona, Bazlu Jane Lasher Porichoy, Dorjar Opare Bhor, and Danamajhir Bou; and the novels Jolpai Ronger Dinrat and Boshonto Rodon.

His other works include the interview collections Dui Bhasha-Sangramir Mukhomukhi (featuring Ahmad Rafique and Rafiqul Islam), Alaper Subashe Sanjida Khatun, and Tin Joddhar Mukhomukhi; the biography Amader Bangabandhu; and the edited volume Swakrit Nomaner Kathamala: Gohiner Dag.
