Darwin, September 3 — India has announced that religious minorities from Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Pakistan will be allowed to stay in the country without a passport or visa, provided they sought refuge in India before December 31, 2024.

According to NDTV, the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs has issued an order under the Immigration and Foreigners Act 2025, granting this facility to Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi, and Christian minorities facing persecution in those countries.

The order also mentions that citizens entering India from Nepal and Bhutan do not require a passport or visa. Additionally, members of India’s Navy, Army, and Air Force, as well as their families, are exempt from carrying passports and visas while on official duty.

This order will also apply to Tibetan refugees who entered India between 1959 and May 20, 2003.

Furthermore, the same provisions will apply to Sri Lankan Tamil refugees who sought asylum in India before January 9, 2015.
