Darwin, September 24 — The Western military alliance NATO has warned Russia to stop provocative actions, particularly violating the airspace of its member states. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the alliance stressed that Russia must cease such activities, as they escalate tensions, create risks, and pose a threat to human lives.
According to Al Jazeera, the joint statement from the 32 member countries made it clear that Russia should have no doubt—NATO and its allies will use all military and civilian means necessary to protect themselves and counter any threats, in accordance with international law.
The warning follows an incident on Friday when several Russian fighter jets entered Estonia’s airspace for about 12 minutes. In response to the breach, NATO convened an emergency consultation meeting under Article 4 of the NATO founding treaty. Earlier, on September 10, a Russian drone violated Polish airspace during an attack on Ukraine, which was shot down by Polish forces.
Following the Poland incident, NATO announced plans to strengthen defenses along its eastern border. Growing tensions have raised concerns that the ongoing war in Ukraine could eventually reach NATO’s borders.
In addition to Poland, countries like Romania, Lithuania, Latvia, and Finland have also faced airspace violations. However, NATO insists that despite Russia’s provocative actions, it will not back down from its commitment to support Ukraine.
