Darwin, 03 October-
A fire broke out at Chevron’s oil refinery in El Segundo, Los Angeles, on Thursday night, prompting swift action from emergency services.
According to officials, the blaze started around 9:30 p.m. local time in the refinery’s IsoMax-7 unit, which is primarily used to process crude oil into jet fuel. Within an hour, firefighters and the refinery’s own emergency response team managed to bring the flames under control.
Chevron confirmed that all employees and contractors present at the site were safe and that no casualties occurred. The company also reported that the fire did not spread beyond the refinery premises, and there were no immediate threats of air pollution or public health risks in surrounding neighborhoods.
As a precaution, authorities issued temporary “shelter-in-place” orders for residents in the Manhattan Beach area until early Friday morning. By 10:30 p.m., officials announced that the fire was largely under control.
Local authorities emphasized that the incident posed no immediate danger to the public. However, experts have cautioned that a prolonged shutdown of production could affect regional fuel supply and potentially lead to higher prices.
The exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined, and an investigation is underway.
