Darwin, 12 October-
Over the past three years, six Arab countries have quietly strengthened their security cooperation with Israel with U.S. assistance, according to a report by The Washington Post citing leaked U.S. military documents. The Russian news agency TASS also reported the findings on Saturday.
Despite publicly condemning Israel’s military actions in Gaza, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia have been discreetly deepening military and intelligence coordination with the Israeli army, the report revealed.
Journalists from The Washington Post obtained classified documents from the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), which oversees American military operations across the Middle East. The leaked files suggest that the growing threat from Iran and its regional allies has been the driving force behind this unprecedented cooperation between Israel and key Arab states. One document reportedly described Iran and its partners as “evil actors.”
The report further noted that, facilitated by Washington, senior military officials from Israel and the six Arab countries held a series of secret planning meetings in Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, and Qatar over the past three years. While these meetings were not intended to establish a formal alliance, they focused on discussing regional security coordination and joint strategic responses to perceived threats.
Additionally, the leaked papers identified Kuwait and Oman as potential future partners for expanded regional security collaboration.
Analysts say this emerging cooperation marks a significant shift in Middle Eastern geopolitics, where shared concerns over Iran appear to be outweighing longstanding political divisions surrounding the Palestinian issue.
