Khamenei’s Security Adviser’s Daughter Marries in Revealing Dress

Outrage has erupted in Iran after a video surfaced showing the daughter of Ali Shamkhani, a close security adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, dressed in revealing Western-style clothing at her wedding — despite Iran’s strict hijab laws that have led to the deaths and imprisonment of women.

The controversy comes as the country continues to face international criticism for its enforcement of mandatory hijab rules, which were a key factor in the death of Mahsa Amini, a young Kurdish woman who died in 2022 after being detained and allegedly beaten by Iran’s morality police for “improperly” wearing her hijab.

According to a video published by BBC Persian, the wedding ceremony took place in May 2024 and featured Shamkhani’s daughter and other family members without Islamic veils, wearing modern, Western-style attire. It remains unclear whether the event was held inside Iran.

Since the 1979 Islamic Revolution, the hijab has been mandatory for all women in Iran, and those who violate the rule face arrest, flogging, or even the threat of execution. Following Amini’s death, nationwide protests broke out, during which hundreds of Iranians were killed.

Ordinary Iranians have expressed anger over what they see as blatant hypocrisy among the ruling elite. One social media user wrote, “Mahsa Amini was wearing more than this.” Another commented, “He married his daughter off in the culture of the very countries he claims to despise.”

Adding to the intrigue, Ali Shamkhani himself drew international attention earlier this year. In June 2025, an Israeli missile strike reportedly hit his residence in Tehran, leaving him seriously injured. Initial reports claimed he had been killed, but Iranian state media later confirmed that he survived.

In a subsequent interview, Shamkhani revealed that several of his ribs were broken and that he was trapped under debris for nearly three hours following the strike.

The wedding scandal has reignited public anger over the double standards of Iran’s leadership, as the regime continues to impose harsh dress codes on ordinary citizens while its own elite families appear to flout those same laws with impunity.
