Darwin, 29 November –
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has married his partner Jodie Haydon. The couple tied the knot in a small, private ceremony on Saturday (29 November).
Albanese, 62, proposed to Haydon on Valentine’s Day last year. However, the date and details of the wedding were kept strictly confidential. According to Reuters, the ceremony took place at The Lodge in Canberra in the presence of close family and friends.
Albanese is now the only person in Australia’s history to marry while serving as prime minister. In a statement, he said, “We are absolutely delighted to express our deep love for each other and our commitment to spending our lives together in front of our family, loved ones and friends.”
Haydon has appeared with Albanese at various public events over the years and played an active role during his 2022 election campaign, in which the Labor Party won by a large margin.
For the wedding, Haydon wore a dress designed by Sydney-based label Romance Was Born, while the prime minister wore a suit by MJ Bale. Their dog Toto served as the ring-bearer.
Guests were served beer in specially designed cans, and the newlyweds will spend their honeymoon within Australia from Monday to Friday. According to the prime minister’s office, all honeymoon expenses will be paid by the couple themselves.
