The United States has seized a large tanker ship off the coast of Venezuela. U.S. President Donald Trump has confirmed the development.
He announced the matter on Wednesday (10 December) in a post on the social-media platform Truth Social.
Several Venezuelan government officials also confirmed the incident. They said the Coast Guard took control of the tanker on Wednesday afternoon. However, they did not provide details about which tanker was seized, whether it was carrying fuel, or where it came from or was headed.
Speaking at a White House event, Trump said, “We have just seized a tanker off the coast of Venezuela… a big tanker, very big, one of the biggest ever seized.”
Trump added that other developments are also underway. “Other things are happening. You will see them later. There will be more discussions with some people about these matters,” he said.
He also stated that the oil on the seized tanker would be kept by the United States.
