Darwin, 12 December:
The Trump administration has introduced a new visa program called the ‘Trump Gold Visa’ aimed at wealthy individuals interested in acquiring U.S. citizenship. President Donald Trump first announced the program on his social media platform Truth Social on Tuesday, and later confirmed the news during a press briefing with journalists.
In his post on Truth Social, President Trump said, “Great news for qualified and vetted individuals! The Trump Gold Visa is now launched. This visa will serve as a direct path to U.S. citizenship. Our great American companies will be able to retain their talented workers.”
According to U.S. officials, to apply for this visa, interested individuals must first visit the website Trumpcard.gov. There, by clicking on the ‘Apply Now’ button, they will be able to access an application form. When submitting the form, applicants will need to pay a fee of $15,000 (approximately 18.2 lakh BDT). This processing fee will be collected by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
After the application is reviewed, the applicant will be notified, and then a “donation” of $1 million (approximately 12.1 crore BDT) will be required to secure the visa. This “donation” is referred to as a gift on the Trumpcard.gov website. The site also states that the Trump Gold Visa carries the same status as a U.S. Green Card. Just like Green Card holders, those with the Trump Gold Visa will be authorized to live and work permanently in the U.S.
During his press briefing at the White House on Tuesday, President Trump stated, “This visa is essentially a Green Card, but it’s much better, stronger, and the ideal path to U.S. citizenship.”
U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnik told Reuters that nearly 10,000 applicants have already applied for the Trump Gold Visa during the pre-registration phase on the Trumpcard.gov website. He expects the number of applicants to increase significantly.
“We anticipate that as time goes on, we will be able to sell thousands of cards and generate hundreds of millions of dollars,” Lutnik said in an interview with Reuters.
It is noteworthy that since President Trump’s inauguration on January 20, 2025, his administration has launched a nationwide crackdown on illegal immigration. Thousands of undocumented immigrants have already been arrested and deported, while many more are currently being detained in various facilities.
Political analysts believe that the Trump Gold Visa program is an attempt to balance immigration while also ensuring a substantial influx of funds into the U.S. treasury.
