TEHRAN : Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has declared that Iran is engaged in a “full-scale war” against the United States, Israel, and Europe, in a chilling escalation of rhetoric just 48 hours before a high-stakes meeting between Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu.
In an interview published Saturday on the official website of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Pezeshkian characterized the current geopolitical pressure as a coordinated Western effort to dismantle Iranian stability.
The President drew a grim comparison to the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war—a conflict that resulted in over one million casualties. Pezeshkian argued that the modern iteration of this “war” is “more complicated and more difficult” than the conventional military struggles of the 1980s.
“They don’t want our country to remain stable,” Pezeshkian said, referring to the trilateral pressure from Washington, Jerusalem, and European capitals.
The remarks serve as a precursor to Monday’s planned visit by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to the U.S., where he is set to meet with President Donald Trump. Iran is expected to dominate the agenda, with both leaders seeking a unified strategy to counter Tehran’s regional influence.
The rhetoric follows a devastating 12-day air war in June, during which joint U.S. and Israeli strikes killed nearly 1,100 Iranians, including top nuclear scientists and military commanders. Tehran’s retaliatory missile strikes subsequently claimed 28 lives in Israel, leaving the region on a permanent hair-trigger.
