Rubio’s New Explanation: ‘We Had to Strike Iran Because of Israel’

Darwin, 03 March:

Israel was determined to launch an हमला against Iran. In response to Israeli strikes, Tehran would have targeted U.S. military forces stationed in the Middle East. Out of this clear concern, the Trump administration was compelled to carry out a preemptive strike on Iran. This information was disclosed by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio himself. He provided this new explanation regarding Washington’s sudden involvement in the conflict, according to The Guardian.

For the first time since ordering airstrikes on Iran, senior members of Congress received a briefing from the Trump administration on Monday (March 2) evening. Rubio’s justification generated mixed reactions among them.

Rubio, CIA Director John Ratcliffe, and Joint Chiefs of Staff representative Keir Dan Kane briefed lawmakers behind closed doors on Capitol Hill. A war resolution is expected to be introduced in the House of Representatives later this week.

Speaking to reporters on Capitol Hill, Rubio said, “It was absolutely clear that if Iran were attacked by anyone—whether the United States, Israel, or someone else—they would respond. And that response would also target the United States.”

He added, “We knew Israel would take action. That would trigger attacks against American forces. If we had not taken preemptive measures before those attacks began, we would have suffered even greater casualties.”

In an interview with Fox News on Monday night, Vice President J.D. Vance said the United States is working to ensure that Iran does not acquire nuclear weapons. He stated, “The President wants to make it clear to the Iranians and to the world that ensuring Iran does not possess nuclear weapons is an extremely important objective—and he will not stop until that goal is achieved.”

Among members of the Trump administration, Vance had been one of the strongest voices opposing military intervention. Compared to Rubio, he has spoken relatively less about U.S. actions regarding Iran.

Since the conflict began, the United States and Israel have carried out airstrikes at various locations across Iran. In response, Tehran has launched drone and missile attacks targeting U.S.-allied countries at different locations throughout the Middle East.
