Darwin, 08 march:

Israeli warplanes have targeted oil storage depots and refinery facilities in Iran’s capital, Tehran, according to Israeli media reports, marking the first time energy infrastructure has been struck since the escalation of the conflict with Iran.

According to reports on Saturday (March 7), Israeli fighter jets carried out airstrikes on oil storage sites and refinery installations in Tehran during the evening hours local time. Israel’s state news agency reported that the attacks were aimed at key energy facilities in the Iranian capital.

In a statement, the Israeli military said it had launched a new wave of strikes targeting Iranian infrastructure in Tehran.

Israel’s public broadcaster KAN reported that the Israeli Air Force specifically targeted oil storage depots and refinery facilities in the city.

Meanwhile, Iran’s semi-official Mehr News Agency said multiple explosions were heard across Tehran following the strikes.

In response to the attack on the Tehran refinery, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed it had carried out missile strikes against Israel’s Haifa refinery, according to Iran’s Fars News Agency.

Tensions in the region have sharply escalated since February 28, when the United States and Israel launched a large-scale military campaign against Iran. Various reports say more than 1,000 people were killed in the initial attacks, including Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, over 150 schoolgirls, and several senior military officials.

Iran has since launched widespread retaliatory strikes. These attacks have reportedly targeted U.S. military bases, diplomatic facilities, and personnel across the Middle East, as well as several cities in Israel.
