Iran’s Supreme Leader Rejects U.S. Ceasefire Proposal

Darwin, 18 March: Iran’s newly appointed Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has rejected a ceasefire proposal put forward by the United States, according to officials familiar with the matter.

The proposal, reportedly delivered through two mediating countries, was dismissed outright by Tehran. Iranian officials said the leadership believes it is “not yet time for peace.”

In his first major foreign policy stance since assuming leadership, Khamenei took a hardline position against both the United States and Israel. He stated that any possibility of negotiations would depend on key conditions being met.

According to Iranian sources, these conditions include:

The U.S. and Israel acknowledging defeat
Payment of compensation for damages
An end to what Iran describes as ongoing aggression

Without these steps, Iran has ruled out entering any ceasefire or peace talks.
The ongoing conflict, involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, has now entered its third week. Reports indicate that at least 2,000 people have been killed so far, raising concerns about further escalation.

Meanwhile, the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz has disrupted global energy markets, adding to international pressure for de-escalation.
