Australia Bans Entry of Iranian Citizens

2026 03 10T080339Z 2077657894 RC2AYJAB4JK4 RTRMADP 3 IRAN CRISIS TURKEY BORDER 1773665744

Darwin, 26 March: Amid escalating tensions and ongoing conflict in the Middle East, the government of Australia has imposed a temporary ban on the entry of Iranian citizens. Officials say the move is aimed at addressing security concerns and preventing potential strain on the country’s immigration system.

According to an official statement, Iranian nationals holding visitor visas who are currently outside Australia will not be allowed to enter the country for the time being.

The restriction has taken immediate effect and is expected to remain in place for an initial period of up to six months, subject to review depending on developments in the region.

Australia’s Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke said the rapidly evolving situation in the Middle East raises concerns that some travelers may be unable to return to their home country, potentially placing additional pressure on Australia’s migration system.

However, certain exemptions apply. Immediate family members of Australian citizens and permanent residents, as well as Iranian nationals already داخل the country, will not be affected by the ban.

The decision comes as instability involving Iran and other parts of the Middle East continues to disrupt global travel and security. Several countries are reassessing their border policies in response to the crisis.

Human rights groups have criticized the measure, arguing that it unfairly targets individuals with valid visas. The Australian government, however, maintains that the decision is necessary to safeguard national interests and ensure the stability of its immigration framework.
