Darwin, 03 April: Austria has refused to allow the United States to use its airspace for attacks on Iran. The U.S. had requested permission to use Austrian airspace, but Austria has rejected the request.
The Austrian Ministry of Defense stated that, citing its neutrality laws, Austria denied Washington’s request to use its airspace. A ministry spokesperson said that several requests had been made from Washington for airspace access in connection with operations against Iran.
Austria has long maintained a policy of military neutrality.
Among European countries, Spain has also strongly opposed the war with Iran, keeping its airspace closed to U.S. military aircraft.
Last week, the Italian government denied a U.S. bomber permission to use a military base in Sicily. France also did not allow airspace access. Most European countries have condemned the war as unjust.
