France tops FIFA rankings; what is Australia’s position?

FIFA

Darwin, 03 April:

After seven and a half years, the French national football team has returned to the top of the FIFA rankings. In the latest FIFA rankings, France overtook Spain and Argentina by two steps to claim the number one spot, currently holding 1,877.32 points.

France was last at the top of the FIFA rankings in September 2018.

With France’s rise, Spain and world champions Argentina each dropped one step. Spain is now second with 1,876.40 points, while Argentina is third with 1,874.81 points.

Five-time world champion Brazil also slipped one position, moving from fifth to sixth with 1,761.16 points.

Following Brazil’s drop, Portugal rose one step, now fifth with 1,763.83 points.

Bangladesh has also experienced a decline in the FIFA rankings, moving from 180th to 181st place, with 899.53 points. Their drop was due to defeats against Vietnam (0-3 on March 26) and Singapore (0-1 on March 31) in the Asian Cup qualifiers, losing a total of 9.18 points from these two matches.

Meanwhile, as of April 2026, the Australia men’s national football team (Socceroos) is ranked 27th in the FIFA rankings. They currently have 1,580.67 rating points, making them one of the top teams in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). Their highest-ever ranking was 14th in 2009.
