Darwin, 03 April: French President Emmanuel Macron said on Thursday that launching a military operation to free the Strait of Hormuz from Iran’s control would not be a realistic course of action, despite the waterway’s critical importance for global energy transport.
AFP from Seoul reports that, during his visit to South Korea, Macron told journalists: “Some have advocated forcibly freeing the Strait of Hormuz through military action, and the United States has at times expressed such a position.”
He added, “This is unrealistic. It would take too long, and any attempt to pass through the strait would face threats from Iran’s Revolutionary Guard. They possess substantial weaponry, including ballistic missiles. There are also other risks involved.”
