Darwin, 06 April: A residential building in Haifa was destroyed after an Iranian ballistic missile strike, leaving at least four people trapped under the rubble. Rescue teams have so far recovered the bodies of two individuals, while two others remain missing.
Authorities said that after several hours of coordinated efforts with the Home Front Command, rescue teams managed to retrieve two victims from the debris. “There were no signs of life,” officials confirmed. Rescue operations continue in an effort to reach the remaining missing persons.
Overnight Rescue Efforts Amid Complex Conditions
Haifa Fire and Rescue Service Station Commander Kobi Mizrahi described the scene as “the most horrific our district has seen in terms of destruction, complexity, and casualties.” He added that teams worked through the night to reach those trapped inside the rubble.
Rescue operations involve the fire service, police, the Home Front Command, and emergency service provider Magen David Adom. Clearing debris and reaching trapped individuals remain ongoing priorities.
Preliminary reports indicate the missing include two elderly adults and a child. Israeli Police Commissioner Danny Levy said, “Rescuers are using every possible resource to locate the missing.” He noted that the missile’s warhead may not have detonated upon impact, prompting nearby evacuations.
Background of the Attacks
Over ten Iranian missiles were launched at various locations across Israel on Sunday night and Monday morning. The missile that struck Haifa could not be intercepted, and Israeli forces confirmed it carried a conventional warhead.
Sirens sounded multiple times in central Israel, including Jerusalem. MDA reported that an 82-year-old man was seriously injured, three others sustained minor injuries, and several people received psychological care.
Earlier on Monday, a 90-year-old woman was seriously hurt while heading to a shelter in Tel Aviv. She was found unconscious and was rushed to Ichilov Hospital for treatment.
Escalating Tensions on the Northern Border
Alongside Iranian missile attacks, the Lebanon-based militant group Hezbollah intensified rocket and drone strikes in northern Israel. Multiple sirens sounded, and property damage was reported in some areas.
According to the IDF, Hezbollah has launched large numbers of rockets daily in recent weeks, further heightening tensions along the border and alarming local civilians.
