Darwin, 07 April : Four active-duty soldiers of the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have been arrested on suspicion of conducting espionage on behalf of Iran.

Authorities have described the case as a serious national security threat and are conducting an ongoing investigation.

The report was highlighted on Tuesday by the Jewish news outlet Yedioth Ahronoth.

According to the report, the detained soldiers have been in custody for several weeks.

However, due to a court-imposed gag order, their identities and further details of the case have not been released. Investigators have stated that the matter is still under review and additional information may be disclosed at a later stage.

Meanwhile, a separate investigation by the police’s Lahav 433 unit revealed that multiple suspects were allegedly involved in activities directed by Iranian agents.

Authorities believe these individuals attempted to manufacture explosives and conducted tests using the materials produced.

Officials noted that these activities occurred amid ongoing conflict, further complicating the country’s security situation. They said the recent incidents represent a new dimension of Iranian espionage efforts within Israel.

In a related case, prosecutors are preparing charges against a 21-year-old resident of Jerusalem for serious national security offenses.

Police and the Shin Bet security service reported that in 2025, the suspect established contact with an Iranian intelligence officer through social media.

Investigators stated that the individual knowingly worked on behalf of a hostile party. His activities allegedly included gathering intelligence, documenting various locations across Israel, and purchasing specialized equipment. He is also accused of receiving payments in cryptocurrency for these activities.

Authorities described the case as an example of modern espionage operations conducted through online recruitment, encrypted communications, and digital financial transfers.
