Over 200 Killed in a Single Day in Lebanon: Europe Condemns Israel, Urges Halt to Attacks

Darwin, 09 April: France, Italy and the United Kingdom have strongly condemned Israel’s ongoing military strikes in Lebanon, calling for an immediate halt to the attacks amid rising regional tensions.

The three European nations warned that continued bombardment risks escalating the conflict further and undermining fragile stability in the Middle East.

Heavy Casualties Reported

According to Lebanon’s health ministry, at least 203 people were killed and more than 1,000 others injured in Israeli airstrikes.

The strikes hit multiple locations, including Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, on the very first day of the ceasefire between Iran and the United States.

Strong Reactions from World Leaders

French President Emmanuel Macron described Israel’s actions as “indiscriminate,” warning that they pose a direct threat to the durability of the ceasefire.

UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper called the attacks “damaging” and urged that Lebanon be included under the ceasefire framework.

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez criticized Benjamin Netanyahu, saying his disregard for human life and international law is “unacceptable.”

Italy’s Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani expressed solidarity with Lebanon’s president and summoned Israel’s ambassador, warning, “We do not want to see another Gaza scenario.”

EU Joins Criticism

EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas urged Israel to halt its attacks, saying they go beyond self-defense against Hezbollah and risk undermining the U.S.-Iran ceasefire.

“Hezbollah dragged Lebanon into the war, but Israel’s right to defend itself does not justify inflicting such massive destruction,” Kallas said.
“Israeli strikes killed hundreds last night, making it hard to argue such heavy-handed actions fall within self-defense.”

Wider International Concern

Qatar described the attacks as “horrific” and called on the international community to pressure Israel to stop its military campaign.

Turkey also issued a strong condemnation, denouncing the strikes in harsh terms.

UN Raises Alarm

The United Nations Secretary-General condemned the হামলাগুলো, warning that they pose a serious threat to the ceasefire and could escalate into a broader regional crisis.

With rising casualties and mounting global criticism, pressure is intensifying on Israel to halt its operations in Lebanon. World leaders warn that failure to de-escalate could jeopardize the fragile ceasefire and push the region toward a wider and more dangerous conflict.
