Darwin, 12 April :

The United States delegation has left Pakistan after failing to reach an agreement with Iran during high-level negotiations held in Islamabad.

According to a report by Dawn, U.S. Vice President JD Vance departed Islamabad on Sunday (April 12) aboard Air Force Two, heading back to Washington along with his delegation.

Before takeoff, Vance was seen waving from the aircraft stairs.

The talks in Islamabad reportedly began on Saturday and continued for nearly 21 hours, including a trilateral meeting involving mediators. The discussions were aimed at building on a proposed 10-point plan from Iran, which had earlier led to a temporary two-week ceasefire agreement facilitated by Pakistan’s mediation.

During a press briefing after the talks, JD Vance confirmed that no final agreement was reached.

“We held discussions for 21 hours and made some progress, but we did not reach a consensus,” he said.

He added that the U.S. delegation entered the talks with a flexible and sincere approach, but Iran’s representatives did not accept the proposed conditions.
Vance also reiterated that Iran must not develop nuclear weapons or pursue any pathway that could enable rapid nuclear capability.

Following the unsuccessful negotiations, the U.S. delegation immediately departed Pakistan.
