Bangladesh to Take Steps for Chinmoy Krishna’s Release

Darwin, 19 April: Bangladesh’s Minister of Cultural Affairs, Advocate Nitai Roy Chowdhury, has said that necessary steps will be taken for the swift release of Chinmoy Das, spokesperson of the Bangladesh Sammilito Sanatani Jagaran Jote.

 

He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of “Mahanagar Paribar Dibosh-2026” held on Friday (April 17) at Dhakeshwari Temple in the capital Dhaka. The event was organized by the Mahanagar Sarbojanin Puja Committee.

The Culture Minister said that questions have been raised regarding what charges were brought against Chinmoy Das that led to his detention. “I will raise the matter with the appropriate authorities within today or tomorrow and take necessary steps for his prompt release,” he added.

He further said that Bangladesh is home to various communities, including hill people, plainland ethnic groups, indigenous peoples, ethnic minorities, and small national groups. The Ministry of Cultural Affairs is working to preserve the culture and heritage of these communities and is carrying out necessary research.

He also said that he believes Dhakeshwari Temple should be included in the list of archaeologically significant sites.

The minister noted that the Prime Minister has clearly stated that there will be no discrimination in the country.

While differences in political ideology, religion, and culture are natural, the government’s main goal is to build unity within this diversity, and it is working accordingly.

The event was chaired by Jayanta Kumar Dev, President of the Mahanagar Sarbojanin Puja Committee.

Others present included Md. Abdus Salam, Administrator of Dhaka South City Corporation; Md. Hamidur Rahman, Member of Parliament from Dhaka-7; Basudeb Dhar, President of Bangladesh Puja Udjapan Parishad; Santosh Sharma, General Secretary; Debashish Pal, Provost of Jagannath Hall at Dhaka University.
