US Drafting New Strike Plans Targeting Iran and Strait of Hormuz: Report

Darwin, 24 April:

The United States military is developing new war plans aimed at targeting Iran’s military capabilities in the Strait of Hormuz, according to sources cited by CNN. The report was also carried by The Times of Israel.

CNN reported that the Pentagon is currently reviewing several strike options. These include potential attacks on Iranian targets in the Strait of Hormuz, the southern Persian Gulf, and the Gulf of Oman.

According to the report, the plans focus on military assets that enable Iran to maintain control over the Strait of Hormuz. Potential targets include fast attack boats and mine-laying vessels operated by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Despite extensive airstrikes carried out by the United States and Israel, which have reportedly damaged significant portions of Iran’s naval forces, IRGC fast-attack craft are believed to remain operational. These vessels are typically equipped with machine guns and can be used to deploy naval mines.

On Thursday, Donald Trump signaled a tough stance, warning that any vessel attempting to lay mines in the Strait of Hormuz would be “shot and destroyed” by the US Navy. However, US officials have not confirmed any verified incidents of Iranian ships placing mines so far.

Another proposal under consideration involves targeting Iranian military leaders whom Washington believes are obstructing efforts toward a permanent ceasefire. In addition, the US may resume strikes on Iran’s remaining military capabilities, particularly missile stockpiles and launch systems.

The situation remains highly sensitive, with growing concerns that further escalation could disrupt global energy flows and heighten instability across the region.
