Darwin, 26 April:
US President Donald Trump has canceled a planned visit by an American delegation to Islamabad, despite earlier plans for talks with Iran.
In a post on Truth Social on Saturday, Trump confirmed the decision, saying, “I have just canceled the trip of my representatives who were going to Pakistan to meet with the Iranians.”
Explaining the move, he said the trip would take too much time and that many important matters required his attention. He also claimed there is “extreme internal conflict and confusion” within Iran’s leadership, adding that “they don’t even know who is in charge right now.”
In an interview with Fox News, Trump said, “We have all the cards, they have none. If they want to talk, all they have to do is make a phone call.”
He further criticized the long journey, saying there would be “no more 18-hour flights just to sit around without saying anything,” emphasizing that such trips would not continue without meaningful outcomes.
According to Fox News, the decision also came after the Iranian delegation left Islamabad. As a result, Trump canceled the planned visit of his envoys, including Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, to Pakistan.
