Darwin, 14 May : U.S. President offered rare praise for Chinese President during a meeting in China, describing him as a “great leader” despite years of tensions between the two global powers.
According to the Associated Press, Trump made the remarks during a bilateral meeting with Xi, where the two leaders discussed a range of contentious issues that have strained relations between Washington and Beijing in recent years.
“You are a great leader,” Trump told Xi in front of reporters at the start of the meeting. “Sometimes people don’t like it when I say that, but I say it anyway because it’s true.”

In his opening remarks, Trump briefly acknowledged the long history of friction between the United States and China, including two major trade wars and growing tensions over U.S. support for .
The discussions also touched on Trump’s long-standing frustration over what he considers Beijing’s slow efforts to curb the supply of chemical ingredients used in the production of fentanyl, a synthetic drug that has fueled a major crisis in the United States.
However, Trump avoided publicly commenting on disagreements between Washington and Beijing regarding the ongoing Iran conflict.
Trump’s unusually warm tone toward Xi is being viewed by analysts as a possible signal of a broader diplomatic recalibration between the world’s two largest economies, despite continuing geopolitical and economic disputes.
