Darwin, 08 June : A senior Iranian lawmaker has warned of a “painful and final response” following an Israeli airstrike on the southern suburbs of Lebanon’s capital, Beirut, on Sunday.
The warning came from Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Policy and National Security, who made the remarks in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
“We will deliver a final and painful response to the Zionist regime’s attack on the suburbs,” Rezaei wrote. “This mad dog must be disciplined and brought back to its proper place. Keep your eyes on the skies of the occupied territories tonight.”
Iran commonly refers to all of Israel as the “occupied territories.”
The statement follows an Israeli airstrike targeting Beirut’s southern suburbs, an area often associated with heightened regional tensions and militant activity.
Earlier this week, Iran’s foreign minister had also warned that any Israeli strike on Beirut would be considered a clear violation of the ceasefire agreement reached with the United States and would trigger a strong response from Tehran.
The latest developments have further heightened concerns of escalating tensions in the region amid ongoing hostilities involving Israel, Lebanon, and Iran.
Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf also appeared to criticize the United States and Israel in a social media post, saying that neither country remains committed to ceasefires nor believes in dialogue.
“They have proven through this naval blockade and violations of agreements related to Lebanon that they only understand the language of force,” Ghalibaf wrote, referring to what he described as repeated breaches of ceasefire arrangements and regional agreements.
His remarks came amid rising tensions following Israel’s reported strike on Beirut’s southern suburbs, further intensifying concerns of a broader regional escalation.
