Darwin, 10 July : Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that Ukraine’s increasing attacks on Russia’s energy infrastructure will not be able to destabilize the country or create fear among the Russian people.
Recently, Ukraine has intensified attacks on facilities linked to Russia’s energy sector. Addressing a virtual cabinet meeting from the Kremlin in Moscow on Wednesday, Putin said the enemy was trying to damage Russia’s economy through continuous strikes on energy infrastructure.
“It has already become completely clear that the enemy is trying to destroy our economy by carrying out continuous attacks on the energy sector. They believe these attacks will destabilize Russia,” Putin said.
“But the reality is that Russia’s energy system is one of the most resilient energy systems in the world. These attacks will not destroy the Russian economy, nor will they create fear among ordinary Russian citizens. Therefore, the objectives for which these attacks are being carried out are impossible for the enemy to achieve,” he added.
In recent weeks, Ukrainian forces have increased attacks on Russian oil refineries, gas compression stations and civilian infrastructure.
Ukraine has also carried out strikes on vehicles traveling between Russia and Crimea, the Black Sea peninsula annexed by Russia. According to Moscow, such attacks last week alone killed 38 civilians and injured 270 others.
The Kremlin has described Ukraine’s recent attacks as “terrorist acts.”
