US Has ‘Lost’ War with Iran: US Senator

cris morphy

Darwin, August 10: US Democratic Senator Chris Murphy has said that the United States has “lost” the ongoing war with Iran. In his view, the longer the war continues, the weaker the United States becomes, while Iran is moving into a stronger position.

Speaking in an interview with NBC on Sunday (August 9), Murphy said, “The United States is getting weaker, and Iran is getting stronger.” He advocated reaching an agreement quickly to end the war. He even argued that Washington should accept a deal even if it is not particularly favorable to the United States, in the interest of ending the war and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.

According to Murphy, the prolonged war is also increasing economic pressure on the United States. In particular, the suspension of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz is driving up the prices of fuel and other goods. He said that if the war continues every day, the United States will become weaker, Iran will become stronger, and ordinary Americans will have to pay the price.

Talks between the United States and Iran over the Strait of Hormuz remain deadlocked. According to The Washington Times, Iran has demanded compensation, the lifting of US sanctions, and an end to US military operations against Iran in exchange for reopening the strategically important waterway.

Murphy said he would not vote in favor of allocating additional funds to continue the war. However, he supports providing funding to replenish US stocks of weapons and ammunition used during the conflict once the war is over.
