Bomb Threat Issued Against Delhi Airport, Other Key Installations

Darwin, August 15: An email threatening bomb attacks was sent to New Delhi a day before India’s Independence Day. Security has been tightened across the capital following threats on Friday (August 14) targeting six key locations, including the Delhi High Court and Indira Gandhi International Airport.

The email, sent using the name “Khalistan,” had the subject line: “Blast Delhi High Court @2:11 PM.” It threatened major explosions across Delhi at a specific time.

Following the threat, security was heightened across the capital. Besides the Delhi High Court and Terminal 3 of IGI Airport, the threat list included Jamnagar House, Jhandewalan Bhawan, Saket Office, the District Magistrate’s Office and the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Office in Delhi Cantonment.

Following receipt of the threat, police, bomb squads and security agencies conducted searches in the areas. Surveillance and security checks were also intensified at key installations and crowded places.

However, after thorough searches, security forces have so far reported finding no suspicious or dangerous objects.

Authorities have launched an investigation to determine who was behind the email and whether it was an attempt to spread panic.
