Strait of Hormuz Will Remain Closed Until Conditions Are Met: Iran

Darwin, September 21: The Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until the United States fulfills its commitments under the agreement reached in June and accepts Tehran’s conditions, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said. Anadolu Agency reported.

Speaking in parliament on Sunday (September 20), Ghalibaf said Iran had clearly communicated its conditions to the United States through intermediaries. The information was reported by Iran’s state broadcaster, IRIB.

Ghalibaf said, “The adversary knows very well that the path of deception and unilateral pressure is closed. Until the legitimate rights of the Iranian people are recognized and the United States fulfills its commitments, there will be no possibility of returning to the previous negotiating position or reopening the Strait of Hormuz.”

Tensions in the Middle East escalated on February 28, when the United States and Israel launched attacks on Iran, prompting Tehran to retaliate. Iran carried out attacks targeting US military installations in several countries across the region.

Following the escalation, Tehran also closed the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important routes for transporting oil and gas. The strategically vital waterway plays a significant role in global energy supplies, carrying large volumes of oil and natural gas.

Later, in June, the United States and Iran reached an agreement that included measures to halt military operations and resume maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.

However, disagreements emerged between the two countries over maritime navigation and security arrangements in the strategic waterway. The agreement eventually collapsed, leading to renewed tensions over the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.
