Four CISF Personnel Killed in Firing Incident in Jammu and Kashmir

Four personnel of India’s Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), including an officer, were killed after a colleague allegedly opened fire on them at a hydropower project in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday evening, according to reports.

The incident took place around 6:40 pm at the Sewa Hydropower Project in Mashka village, in the Basohli area of Kathua district. Preliminary information suggests that the shooting followed an argument among personnel deployed at the CISF unit.

The deceased were identified as Assistant Commandant Ankit Kumar Pandey, Sub-Inspector Lakshman Singh, Constable Rafiq Ahmed and Constable Sandeep Kumar.

The four personnel sustained gunshot injuries and were taken to an NHPC hospital in Himachal Pradesh for treatment. However, they later succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment.

Police reached the scene after receiving information about the incident and secured the area. The alleged shooter, identified as Avdesh Kumar Singh, was subsequently arrested and handed over to the police.

The firing took place at a CISF deployment site on the Jammu and Kashmir side of the Chamera Dam, built across the Ravi River. The project site lies in a remote area between Basohli in Jammu and Kashmir and Chamba district in Himachal Pradesh. Due to its geographical location, the site is accessible by road through Himachal Pradesh, officials said.

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear. Authorities are investigating the circumstances that led to the incident, including the events preceding the firing. The CISF personnel suspected of opening fire has been apprehended, while further details are awaited.
