Darwin, October 12: Saudi Arabia’s Civil Aviation Authority has confirmed an attack on Dammam Airport in the country’s Eastern Province. The confirmation came shortly after Yemen’s Houthi rebels claimed to have targeted King Fahd International Airport.
Al Jazeera reported the development.
In a statement released on Monday (October 12), Saudi Arabia’s Civil Aviation Authority said it was assessing the extent of the damage following the attack on Dammam Airport. However, officials did not immediately provide details about any casualties or the impact on airport operations.
Dammam is a major city in Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province, located approximately 410 kilometres (254 miles) northeast of the capital, Riyadh.
The attack on Dammam Airport is being viewed as the latest incident in a series of attacks targeting airports across Saudi Arabia. Earlier, the Houthis claimed responsibility for an attack targeting King Fahd International Airport. Saudi authorities subsequently confirmed the attack on the airport.
However, no detailed information has yet been released regarding the type of weapons used, the specific target of the attack or the extent of the damage.
Further information is expected to emerge once the assessment of the damage has been completed.
