Darwin, October 25: The United States could launch fresh attacks on Iran as early as today. President Donald Trump said on Saturday, local time, that military strikes could begin on Sunday. Alternatively, a “big deal” could be reached with Iran.
For several days, there have been concerns that the United States could launch an attack on Iran at any moment. Amid these fears, Trump indicated that the strikes could begin as early as Sunday.
When journalists asked Trump about the possibility of an attack on Iran, he said, “We are thinking about it, possibly tomorrow (today, Sunday).”
However, Trump also said that Iran could avoid further attacks if it agreed to a deal on Washington’s terms.
“The Iranians want a deal. But the problem is, can they be committed to sticking to the deal?” he said.
Trump claimed that his objective was to ensure that Iran could not develop nuclear weapons.
In June last year, the United States used B-2 bombers to strike Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. However, Trump said that if he had not ordered another attack on Iran this year, last year’s strikes might not have been sufficient to prevent the country from developing nuclear weapons.
The US president also claimed that oil was flowing through the Strait of Hormuz at pre-war levels. However, he provided no evidence to support the claim.
Trump said that if Iran refused to reach a deal, it would be forced to do so through military action.
“I may have to finish the job. Or perhaps they will make a deal. But I’m not sure. Either way, whether through military action or a deal, we will win,” he said.
