Democrats Take Control of the Senate, Delivering Political Blow to Trump
Darwin, November 4: The Democratic Party has secured a major victory in the US midterm elections, taking control of the Senate following an unexpected win…
Darwin, November 4: US President Donald Trump has said he is prepared to accept the results of the country’s midterm elections. He has also expressed his willingness to work with Democrats.
In an interview with The New York Times, Trump said, “I am certainly ready to accept the election results. We will work with the Democrats. Hopefully, we can find a way to work together.”
Trump blamed his absence from the ballot for the Republican Party’s defeat in the elections. In other words, he believes Republican candidates failed to achieve their expected results because he was not personally running for office.
Trump said, “I wasn’t on the ballot. If I had been, we would have won by tremendous margins!”
Trump also said he had no regrets about the candidates he had endorsed who lost their races. However, he expressed surprise over the defeat of South Carolina candidate Darlene Graham.
“I saw that Darlene lost. Wow, that’s unbelievable!” Trump said.
In this year’s elections, voters are choosing representatives for all 435 seats in the House of Representatives, 35 of the 100 Senate seats, as well as several state-level positions, including governorships and other local offices.
Currently, Republicans control both chambers of Congress—the Senate and the House of Representatives. The House of Representatives is the lower chamber of the US Congress. Its members are elected for two-year terms. Legislative proposals are generally introduced and debated in the House before being sent to the Senate for consideration.
