Darwin, November 8: Six people were killed and at least 15 others injured in a shooting by a gunman at the main square of Kraków, a city in southern Poland. Police arrested the suspected attacker after opening fire during the incident on Saturday (November 7).
According to police, the gunman was wearing clothing resembling a military uniform at the time of the attack. Authorities said they received reports that a man had opened indiscriminate fire at people in the square from a vehicle at around 3:00 pm local time on Saturday (8:00 pm Bangladesh time).
A police spokesperson said officers used firearms while attempting to arrest the attacker. The suspect reportedly fired back, injuring two police officers. He was detained with gunshot wounds and taken to hospital.
In a report, British news agency Reuters said a video circulating on social media showed people running away from the scene amid the sound of gunfire and police sirens. However, Reuters said it could not independently verify the authenticity of the footage. Another video reportedly showed several people lying on a bloodstained paved road, while eyewitnesses attempted to help the injured.

An eyewitness named Konrad told local news outlet Interia, “I saw shots being fired from the driver’s side window. Smoke was also coming out. I ran towards the police station in the main square. When I entered, I saw many people lying on the floor, hiding.”
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said in a post on social media platform X that he was being regularly briefed on the attack in the historic centre of Kraków.
Meanwhile, Polish President Karol Nawrocki expressed his condolences to those killed and injured in the attack, as well as to their families.
Kraków is Poland’s second-largest city and one of the country’s major tourist destinations. Its historic centre is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
