U.S. Launches New Strikes on Iran as Tehran Reimposes Hormuz Strait Closure

Darwin, 11 June : The United States has launched a new wave of military strikes against Iran, escalating tensions in an already volatile regional conflict. The attacks came shortly after U.S. President warned of “hard” military action against Tehran.

According to Iranian media reports, explosions were heard in several cities, including the southern port city of , while air defense systems were activated in western parts of the capital, .

In response, Iran reportedly closed the strategically vital once again, halting the movement of oil tankers, commercial ships, and all other vessels. Iranian military sources cited by the semi-official said vessels violating the order could be treated as military targets.

The U.S. military’s (CENTCOM) confirmed the operation, stating that coordinated “defensive operations” had been launched against multiple Iranian targets.

In a statement, CENTCOM said the strikes were carried out under President Trump’s directive in response to what it described as Iran’s “unprovoked and continued aggression.” However, U.S. officials did not disclose the exact locations targeted.

Iranian news outlets reported major explosions in Bandar Abbas, as well as in Qeshm Island, Gorgan, Sirik, and areas south of Minab. Authorities in Tehran reportedly activated air defense systems in western districts of the capital.

No immediate reports of casualties or infrastructure damage were available.

Earlier, Trump signaled a tougher military response following overnight exchanges of attacks between U.S. and Iranian forces.

Speaking to reporters at the Oval Office on Wednesday local time, Trump said, “We hit them hard yesterday, and we are going to hit them hard again today,” while urging Iran to sign a deal.

U.S. Defense Secretary echoed the warning, stating that CENTCOM would be “very busy tonight” and that Washington intended to follow through on Trump’s threat of strong military action.

Reacting to the remarks, Iranian President said in a post on X that Iran would stand firmly against any pressure or threats.

The latest escalation follows renewed clashes that intensified Tuesday after a U.S. military helicopter was reportedly shot down near the Strait of Hormuz. Washington later launched airstrikes on Iranian targets, prompting Tehran to retaliate with missile and drone attacks on U.S. bases in Jordan, Kuwait, and Bahrain.

Trump later accused Iran of stalling negotiations, saying Tehran would “pay a price” for delaying a potential agreement. Meanwhile, Iranian officials accused Washington of repeatedly violating ceasefire understandings and said Tehran would reassess diplomatic engagement with the United States.

Despite the renewed hostilities, diplomatic efforts remain ongoing to bring both sides back to negotiations. As part of those efforts, a Qatari delegation reportedly arrived in Tehran on Wednesday for talks with Iranian officials.
