Darwin, September 21: US President Donald Trump has said that he has two options regarding Iran: allowing the country to be completely destroyed and economically crippled, or reaching an agreement with Tehran. He made the remarks while discussing the ongoing war with Iran in an interview with Fox News.
Trump said, “We have two options: destroying Iran and allowing the country to rot economically, or reaching a deal. These are the options we have before us.”
He added, “My question is when, and if necessary, whether I should completely blow Iran apart. It’s better for them to behave.”
Meanwhile, Trump did not rule out the possibility of meeting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. He said he was open to such a meeting.
Although a security warning has been issued for US citizens in the Middle East, Trump said he did not consider the current situation in the region unusual for this week. In his words, “It’s like any other week in the Middle East.”
Trump also claimed that the United States remains in regular contact with the Houthis and that they have agreed not to fight against the United States. Criticizing several Iranian officials, Trump said they were “hiding like rats.” He added that it was now difficult to find anyone capable of reaching an agreement with Iran.
