At Least 50 Killed in Massive Fire at Shopping Mall in Iraq
Melbourne, July 17— At least 50 people have been killed in a devastating fire at a shopping mall in the eastern Iraqi city of Al-Kut, according to the country’s state news agency, INA.
The report, citing the governor of Wasit province, was published on Thursday morning. The news has also been covered by international news agency Reuters.
Videos circulating on social media show a five-story building engulfed in flames, with firefighters desperately trying to bring the blaze under control.
The cause of the fire has not been immediately confirmed. However, the governor stated that the results of a preliminary investigation will be released within 48 hours.
INA also reported that authorities are filing charges against the building and mall owner, citing the governor.
