Bangladesh-Malaysia Sign 5 MOUs and 3 ‘Notes of Exchange

Darwin, 12 August- Bangladesh and Malaysia have signed five Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and three ‘Notes of Exchange.’ The agreements were signed on Tuesday (12 August) in Malaysia’s administrative capital, Putrajaya.

The historic signing ceremony took place on the first day of Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus’s three-day visit to Malaysia. Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus were present at the event.

Earlier in the morning, at 9:00 a.m. local time, Dr. Yunus arrived at the Malaysian Prime Minister’s Office, where he was welcomed with a red carpet reception and given a guard of honor. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim introduced Dr. Yunus to members of his cabinet. Later, the top leaders of both countries held a bilateral meeting, after which the agreements were signed. The first Note of Exchange was related to cooperation in the higher education sector. It was signed by Malaysia’s Foreign Minister Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Mohamad bin Haji Hasan and Bangladesh’s Adviser for Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Asif Nazrul.

The second Note of Exchange focused on the development of diplomatic training and experience sharing. It was signed by Malaysian Foreign Minister Mohamad bin Haji Hasan and Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain.

The third Note of Exchange concerned the halal ecosystem, aimed at enhancing mutual cooperation in the halal industry. It was signed by Malaysian Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office Senator Dr. Zulkifli bin Hasan and Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashiq Mahmud bin Harun.

Additionally, five important MoUs were signed:

1. Defence Cooperation – Signed by Malaysia’s Defence Minister Dato’ Seri Mohamad Khaled bin Nordin and Bangladesh’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain.

2. Joint Cooperation in LNG, Petroleum Products, Related Infrastructure, and the Energy Sector – Signed by Malaysia’s Acting Minister of Economy Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah bin Azizan and Bangladesh’s Energy Adviser M. Fauzul Kabir Khan.

3. Mutual Cooperation Between Strategic Research Institutes – Between Malaysia’s Institute of Strategic and International Studies (ISIS) and Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS). Signed by ISIS Malaysia Chairman Datuk Professor Dr. Mohd Faiz Abdullah and Bangladesh High Commissioner to Malaysia Md. Shameem Ahsan.

4. Cooperation in ICT and Commercial Connectivity – Between Malaysia’s MIMOS Services Sdn Bhd and the Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI). Signed by MIMOS Services CEO Mohammad Fauzi Yahaya and BMCCI representative Shabbir Ahmed Khan.

5. Mutual Cooperation to Expand Trade and Investment – Between Malaysia’s National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCIM) and Bangladesh’s FBCCI. Signed by NCCIM President Dato’ Seri N. Gobalakrishnan and FBCCI Administrator Md. Hafizur Rahman.
