Yemen’s Houthi Prime Minister Killed in Israeli Airstrike

Darwin, August 31 — Yemen’s Houthi-aligned Prime Minister Ahmed al-Rahwi has been killed in an Israeli airstrike, a statement from the Iran-backed armed group confirmed. The airstrike took place last week in Yemen’s capital, Sana’a, and several other Houthi ministers also lost their lives in the attack.

Al Jazeera reported that al-Rahwi, who effectively served as the Prime Minister in the Houthi-controlled regions, was attending a workshop when the airstrike targeted him and other government officials.

The strike came as regional tensions escalated amid the ongoing war in Gaza, prompting Israel to carry out the attack in Sana’a.

The Israeli military, in a statement, confirmed that their forces had targeted “a military objective of the Houthi terrorist regime” in the area of Sana’a on Thursday.

In recent months, Israel has repeatedly struck Houthi targets as the group has attacked Western ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. The Houthis have claimed that these attacks are acts of solidarity with the Palestinians in Gaza.

The Houthis have repeatedly stated that Israeli strikes will not halt their military operations.

On Wednesday, the Houthis claimed they had launched missile attacks in southern Israel, although Israel reported that the missiles were intercepted.

In a Saturday statement, the Houthi government affirmed that despite the deadly Israeli airstrike, their government and institutions would remain functional.

The statement read: “The blood of the great martyrs will serve as fuel and inspiration for us to continue along the same path.”

It remains unclear how many were killed in the Thursday airstrike in Sana’a.

Israeli media, citing anonymous sources, reported on Friday that the Israeli military had targeted the entire Houthi cabinet, including the Prime Minister and at least 12 other ministers.

This airstrike followed another Israeli attack on August 24 in Sana’a, which had already resulted in 10 deaths and more than 90 injuries, according to health officials.

The Israeli military stated that it had targeted Houthi military installations and the president’s palace in the previous attack.
