U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that the United States possesses enough nuclear weapons to destroy the world 150 times over. In the same interview, he alleged that Russia and China are secretly conducting nuclear tests—despite publicly denying it.
In an interview with CBS News, Trump made these remarks, which were later reported by TRT World on Monday (November 3). He asserted that the U.S. has unparalleled nuclear power and warned that other nations are advancing their own capabilities.
According to Trump, North Korea is not the only country conducting nuclear tests. “Russia is testing, China is testing — but they don’t talk about it,” he told host Norah O’Donnell during CBS’s flagship program 60 Minutes.
When O’Donnell pointed out that only North Korea is known to be carrying out nuclear tests, Trump countered with his claims about Russia and China. The comments come just days after Trump reportedly ordered preparations to resume U.S. nuclear weapons testing for the first time in over 30 years.
“Other countries are testing. We’re the only ones who don’t,” Trump said. “I don’t want to be the only country that doesn’t test.” He further argued that building nuclear weapons without testing them is impractical: “You make weapons, but if you don’t test them, how do you know if they work?”
Expressing pride in America’s nuclear capabilities, Trump added, “We have tremendous nuclear strength — no country has anything like it. Russia is second, and China is far behind, but they’ll catch up within five years.”
He concluded, “We have enough nuclear weapons to blow up the world 150 times. Russia has plenty too, and China is moving fast.”
