Police Launch Raids Across 200 Locations in Kashmir After Delhi Blast

Darwin, 12 November-

Police in India’s Jammu and Kashmir conducted raids across more than 200 locations in Kulgam district on Wednesday, following the deadly explosion in New Delhi earlier this week.

According to police sources, the raids led to the seizure of a large quantity of publications, pamphlets, and documents linked to the banned political group Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI). Authorities, however, did not disclose how many people were arrested during the operations.

The crackdown comes two days after a powerful car bomb blast near the Red Fort Metro Station in central Delhi on Monday evening, which killed at least 12 people and injured around 30 others. The explosion was caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).

Police have identified the driver of the car as Dr. Mohammad Omar, who was reportedly unaware of the bomb placed in his vehicle. He died instantly in the blast. Investigators believe the bomb was planted in his car without his knowledge.

Just days before the Delhi explosion, police in Faridabad, Haryana, recovered more than 350 kilograms of explosives from two rented houses. The materials were suitable for making IEDs, according to law enforcement officials.

Police have since arrested Dr. Muzammil Shakil, a medical practitioner from Jammu and Kashmir who worked at Al Falah Hospital in Faridabad. Preliminary interrogation revealed that Jamaat-e-Islami, which was banned by India’s central government several years ago for alleged links to militant activities, has recently become active again in the region.

Investigators suspect that both the Faridabad explosives seizure and the Delhi bombing may be connected to the re-emerging JeI network, which is reportedly being directed by individuals currently based in Pakistan.

In an official statement, Jammu and Kashmir Police said,

> “During the raids, a large number of printed materials and documents related to Jamaat-e-Islami were recovered and seized. Several persons have been detained, and verification of the seized documents as well as interrogations are underway.”
