VENEZUELA : Fear has gripped the Venezuelan capital of Caracas following a series of at least seven powerful explosions and reports of low-flying aircraft in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The blasts began at approximately 1:50 AM local time, causing ground-shaking tremors that sent residents into the streets in a state of panic. Witness accounts describe a terrifying atmosphere as windows shattered and the sound of jet engines roared overhead.
“The whole ground shook. This is horrible. We heard explosions and planes in the distance,” said Carmen Hidalgo, a 21-year-old office worker who was returning from a birthday party when the blasts occurred. “We felt like the air was hitting us.”
CNNE correspondent Osmary Hernandez reported that one explosion was so intense it caused windows to shake across the city. Despite the chaos on the ground, Venezuelan state television continued its scheduled programming, airing segments on local music and art without mentioning the ongoing events.

Smoke was seen rising into the sky after the explosions.
Colombian President Gustavo Petro issued a frantic alert on social media, calling for an immediate meeting of the United Nations.
“Right now they are bombing Caracas. Alert the world, they have attacked Venezuela,” Petro wrote on X (formerly Twitter). While Petro did not specify the source of the attack, his comments have intensified global fears of a military intervention.

The explosions follow months of increasing pressure from the United States. While the Pentagon and White House have yet to comment on this morning’s events, the US military has been actively targeting alleged drug-smuggling vessels in the Caribbean since September.
This incident comes just one week after a confirmed CIA drone strike on a docking area used by cartels—the first known direct operation on Venezuelan soil. US President Donald Trump has previously stated he would consider strikes on land targets to stem the flow of narcotics, asserting that the US is in an “armed conflict” with drug cartels.
