Darwin, 19 February:
Indian and international media report that US President Donald Trump held a high-level security meeting on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, to discuss the possibility of a military strike on Iran set to occur by this coming Saturday.
According to officials speaking to CBS News under anonymity, U.S. security advisers told Trump that military forces could be prepared to carry out an attack on Iran before the end of this week. However, no final decision has yet been made by the President.
Officials described the discussions as ongoing and fluid, with the White House carefully evaluating how Iran might respond to a U.S. strike and what broader consequences such an action could have in the Middle East. They emphasised that serious consideration is being given to regional security risks before any final orders are issued.
In anticipation of potential hostilities, multiple sources say the U.S. military is temporarily relocating some of its personnel from the Middle East to Europe and the United States ahead of any offensive, to reduce risk to troops.
However, analysts noted that troop movements do not necessarily confirm that an attack will take place.
The situation remains dynamic as global leaders and military strategists monitor developments in one of the region’s most sensitive flashpoints.
