Darwin, 27 February: Afghan forces have reportedly launched surprise attacks across various areas of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in retaliation for last week’s airstrikes. Following Thursday night’s assaults, several Pakistani soldiers were allegedly captured alive, while many others were killed. Afghan forces also claimed to have seized at least 40 Pakistani border posts.
The spokesperson of Afghanistan’s Taliban government, Zabihullah Mujahid, shared the information in a post on the microblogging platform X.
He stated that after intense clashes began, Afghan forces inflicted heavy losses on Pakistani troops, killing many soldiers and capturing several others alive.
The attacks reportedly began suddenly on Thursday night, targeting Pakistani military positions.
In a statement, the media office of Afghanistan’s eastern military corps said fierce fighting had been ongoing since Thursday night. The counteroffensive was launched in response to Pakistani airstrikes carried out last Sunday in Nangarhar and Paktia provinces.
According to Afghan sources, more than 100 people, including women and children, were killed in those air raids.
Meanwhile, Pakistan has claimed that it killed a large number of Afghan fighters and destroyed numerous border posts during the clashes.
