Darwin, 28 February: Israel and the United States have launched airstrikes on Iran. Loud explosions have been heard in the capital, Tehran. The attacks reportedly targeted political and civilian figures, including the office of the Supreme Leader, the President’s office, and the Supreme Court.
The war and conflict monitoring X (formerly Twitter) account MonitorX reported that heavy strikes were carried out on Mehrabad Airport. Israeli airstrikes have also been reported targeting Isfahan.
Several media outlets say that the attacks are being launched without entering Iranian airspace, striking from areas near Syria, Azerbaijan, and Kurdish regions.
Meanwhile, Israeli authorities have declared a state of emergency across Tel Aviv amid fears of missile attacks. Sirens have been heard throughout the city. U.S. diplomats stationed in Qatar have been instructed to move to safe locations.
The first attack on Tehran was reportedly carried out using Tomahawk cruise missiles fired from U.S. ships in the Gulf of Oman.
Iran’s Supreme Religious Leader Ayatollah Khomeini and President Pezeshkian are reported to be safe. Members of parliament are also said to be secure.
Fars News Agency reported that several missiles struck University Street and the Jomhouri area in Tehran.
