Trump Slams Starmer Over Iran War Stance, Says ‘Special Relationship’ Under Strain
U.S. President Donald Trump has sharply criticized British Prime Minister Keir Starmer for not backing Washington in its war against Iran, warning that the long-standing “special relationship” between the two allies is now under strain.
Trump said Starmer had not been supportive of the U.S. position. “He hasn’t been helpful… I never thought I would see something like this. I would never expect this from Britain,” Trump remarked.
He added that relations between the two countries have changed dramatically. “It’s a different world, frankly. It’s not what it used to be.
The nature of our relationship with that country is completely different,” he said.
The U.S. president noted that he never expected what was once considered one of the “strongest alliances” to come under such pressure.
Trump also suggested that Washington is no longer relying on Britain in managing its military campaign in the Middle East.
“It’s not that important right now, but Starmer should have been supportive… he should have been,” he added.
The remarks signal growing tensions between Washington and London at a time of heightened geopolitical uncertainty in the region.
