Darwin, 12 March: The United Nations Security Council has called on Iran to immediately stop its attacks on countries in the Gulf region. A resolution on the matter was adopted during a Security Council meeting on Monday.

The resolution states that by carrying out attacks on Gulf nations, Iran is not only violating international law but also posing a serious threat to international peace and security. The UN has urged Iran to immediately halt attacks on Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan.

Following the introduction of the resolution, 13 of the 15 members of the Security Council voted in favor of it, while the remaining two countries abstained.

Earlier, talks between Tehran and Washington over Iran’s nuclear program continued for 21 days from February 6 to February 27, but the negotiations ended without any agreement.

The following day, on February 28, the United States launched a military campaign in Iran called “Operation Epic Fury.” At the same time, Israel also began a military operation named “Operation Roaring Lion.”

On the first day of the war, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and at least 40 senior military and civilian officials were reportedly killed.

The United States and Israel have since continued air operations in Tehran and other cities, causing significant damage to Iran’s energy infrastructure and several oil depots.

In response, Iran has been launching drones and missiles at U.S. military bases in Israel and in six Gulf countries — Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates and Oman.

Iran has also targeted ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important commercial shipping routes. More than 10 oil tankers have reportedly been attacked in the strait since February 28, and Iran has recently begun placing mines in the waterway.
