Trump Announces Ceasefire Between Lebanon and Israel

Darwin, 17 April : Bringing an end to prolonged conflict, U.S. President Donald Trump has announced a 10-day temporary ceasefire between Lebanon and Israel.

In a message posted on Thursday on his personal social media platform, Truth Social, Trump shared details of this historic step.

In the post, Trump wrote that he had “excellent discussions” with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Following these talks, both leaders agreed to a 10-day ceasefire aimed at establishing peace between their countries.

The ceasefire is scheduled to officially take effect at 5 PM Washington time.

Referring to talks held in Washington between representatives of the two countries, Trump said, “For the first time in 34 years, Lebanon and Israel have sat down for talks in the presence of U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio.”

He further added, “I have instructed Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine to work with Israel and Lebanon toward achieving a permanent peace agreement.”

Highlighting his diplomatic record, Trump also said, “I have the honor of settling nine wars around the world. This will be my tenth. So let’s get it done!”

Analysts believe that amid ongoing instability in the Middle East, this 10-day ceasefire could bring significant relief.

However, the world is now watching whether a long-term and sustainable peace agreement can be reached within this period through Washington’s mediation.

Previously, such direct and high-level talks between Lebanon and Israel had not been seen since the 1990s.
